The National Geodetic Survey is a federal agency that is in charge of the United State's coordinate system. They provide the basis for mapping and charting; transportation and communication; and a large number of applications of science and engineering. After the Annual Report of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey became more well known to Government agencies, the NOAA started publishing these Special Publications as well. These reports contain information on the scientific research done by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey using many different oceanographic methods. This is one of those reports.
